It is that time of year! The "most wonderful time of the year," right? The time when we get together with family, share stories and gifts, and eat ourselves stupid because come January, we'll jump back on that bandwagon of "doing better."
The majority of the spaces that I have worked in my life have been predominately occupied by women. We all tell ourselves and each other the same story, relentlessly, over and over and over and over.
I'll do better on Monday.
I'll start working out again after the holidays.
I'll get back on my diet after the [insert any event here].
I could go on and on, right? We've all counted calories, carbs, points, macros. We've fasted, we've juiced, we've done spin, cardio, lifting. Why? Because society has been telling us since we came out of the womb that we should be unhappy with our bodies ~ NO MATTER WHAT!!!
So, how do we win? If we keep it up this way, there is no way we can. We will never be thin enough, fit enough. Our hips will continue to be too big, our tummies will always be too soft or whatever part of your body you hate - we all have (at least) one!
Every morning at work, a group of us sit in one of our offices, drink our morning coffee, and catch up with one another. Inevitably, every single day one of us comments on our appearance and how unhappy we are with this, that, or the other. It was these morning coffee sessions that got me thinking about researching the monotony and redundancy of what we put ourselves through for our appearance. Because as Americans we have this stupid belief that our self-worth hinges on what we look like.
Anyway, that is what led me to start writing my book! The main focus of my book is increasing our self-worth and the first thing we have to do is start believing that what we present on the outside does not dictate the value of who we are.
YOU ARE AMAZING!! You have so many qualities that are unique and outstanding and none of those are based on the number on the scale or any other external quantity.
My goal for this blog, my book, my counseling techniques, and basically everything I do ~ is to make people feel good about themselves! You deserve to love you!! All of you!!!
You are already good enough!! I want to help you see why!
